Easy way to grow cucumbers

Those cucumber that were misplaced with the sunflowers have found a good home. I was originally thinking that I would plant them in the vegetable garden. However, I didn't want to transplant more of them than I had to (this was because I waited too long to move them).

While helping out a local organization plant a vegetable garden I learned that cucumbers can be trained to climb vertically. This was great!... because I was going to grow them on the grown like the pumpkin patch (coming soon... yeah!).

After thinking about it for a while, I decided I would try a net. I didn't want to buy one because compared to good ol' twine, it was more expensive. So I YouTubed how to make one! (here it is if you are interested) We used nails to secure it to the top of the fence and used old tent stakes to stake it down. We made sure the net was tight so it would provide support for the weight of the vines as they grew.

It was a lot of fun and I'm very pleased. As you can see the cucumbers are doing well. Now I need to grow some dill. Yum!

  1. I'm super impressed that you made your own net. I would not have even though to do that.

Also, I've been making pickles for the last few days, if they turh out good, I can pass the recipe on to you...unless you already have a good one, they you should post it, because I would be curious.
