Week One Report Card

So one week down 15 to go... the count down to graduation is on! I absolutely can't wait to be done with school and begin working... (Lord, please provide a job)

I didn't get to choose my schedule this semester because I had a few classes that were only offered at one time. My other classes were forced to work around those few problem classes. Nonetheless I'm lined up to GRADUATE! All five years (embarrassing) of my college career I have tried hard not to have classes on Tuesday and Thursday. Classes on these day are 25 minutes longer than on Monday, Wednesday, Friday classes. However, this semester is pay back... I have four classes on Tuesday, Thursday and two on Monday, Wednesday, Friday.

On the other hand, that may be the only bad thing about the semester. It's still the beginning of the semester but it seems I have about two hard classes, one "medium" and three easier classes. When I say easier I mean, "If I attend class I will most likely pass." The two harder ones will require a lot of outside homework... but this is the last time I will have to do homework, so I have lots of incentive.

One of my friend (through church, not school) has reminded me that this is the last time I will be a student. Initially I was like, "Good!" However, thinking about it more it is the last time I will walk/ride my bike as a student on campus. In 15 weeks I will not be able to walk into the civil building or Zachary and "own the place." That feeling is strange... but welcome for sure.

Campus has changed. For one thing a huge renovation is going on at the Memorial Student Center and while it is sad that a generation of students wont experience the MSC.... the renovations is greatly needed. In addition, a lot of my friends have graduated. I still have a couple that are around, either graduating like me or in grad school. Last semester I felt like I knew everyone and everyone knew me... there was no place to go to hide. It's different now. I don't know everyone... and there were plenty of quite, alone times during my first week. Honestly, I like it. I feel like I can be more focused.

Another thing I will enjoy about this semester (and miss after graduation) is my morning routine. I wake up early get ready for the day and ride my bike to the Rec and swim for 30 minutes. Every morning the pool has been so refreshing. For one thing it's just cleaner than our local gym and the pool is 8ft deep instead of 4ft. You can swim in both depths, but I can also do some deep water treading exercises in the 8ft pool. Another friend of mine gave me some workouts that are nicely laminated and very easy to keep at the pool side when I swim. I have really enjoyed having a workout plan and feel liked in just one week I have improve my technique so much... at graduation I will be swimming like a pro! That excites me.

In addition to swimming, I love biking to campus! It initially came about as a way to get to campus faster than the bus. It saves me about 15 minutes one way (30 minutes a day). Also, if I ride my bike hard on the way to the rec I turn my 30 minute swim into an hour long workout. Then on the way home, depending on the route, I can relax or get another half hour workout in... which is good because I sit in class all day. It will be interested to see how much weight I lose. This summer, just working out 30 minutes and being outside in the heat I lost about 20 pounds (over about 4 months). I have approximately the same time until graduation. No matter how much I lose, I know I will feel good at the end... because exercise is amazing!

This semester is very manageable. I will start job hunting soon and will move into a very different time of my life. It's time and I'm excited!!!
